From setting a routine to daily exercise, the Bezzy MS community shares what self-care techniques work best for them.
When you live with a chronic condition like multiple sclerosis (MS), self-care is just as important to your health as your medications and treatment plan. But life is busy, and you may not have time to prioritize self-care.
Practicing self-care for MS can help you and boost your mood and mental health.
Self-care comes in many forms. The options are endless, from meditating to taking walks to finding new hobbies.
The Bezzy MS community understands just how important self-care can be on your health journey. Here are a few ways members take time for themselves.
“Mindset is the best self-care: I take time to reflect, get quiet with my thoughts, and not feel guilty about resting. You have to release FOMO and make your own moments of joy.” — ChucklesNapoleon, Bezzy MS ambassador
“I focus a lot on both mental and physical self-care. I go to bed at 11 p.m. and wake up at 6:30 a.m. every day. I do at least a half hour of low intensity exercise (yoga, walking, swimming) daily. I schedule times to do homework at the beginning of the week to limit my stress with deadlines. I’ve seen a therapist weekly for 13 years. I try everything because I know no singular thing will help me feel better — it’s a combination of methods that makes everything work.” — Devyn, Bezzy MS community member
“My self-care includes following a routine: getting up early, doing what I can, and just taking care of myself. Going to bed at the same time every night helps me get a good night’s rest.” — Fishergirl 55, Bezzy MS ambassador
“I spend quality time with my kids, try to get in small workouts when I can, get my nails done, and take nice relaxing baths.” — Samantha, Bezzy MS community member
“My self-care will change, depending on the situation. Sometimes, I do my exercises daily, but if I’m feeling off, I may focus on my mental care instead. Maybe meditation or something else. I try to maintain a balance in my MS life. It takes some self-evaluation and knowing yourself. I’m always learning.” — John, Bezzy MS community member
Taking care of yourself — physically, mentally, and emotionally — is crucial, especially when you live with MS. The best self-care technique is one that brings you joy and moments of calm.
As always, we’re here for you at Bezzy. You’re not on this journey alone.
